The overall objective of the ARC-HE-TOUR-DEV project is to promote sustainable socio-economic development in the rural areas of the Republic of Armenia through the promotion of cultural tourism. This aligns with SDG 8 - Target 8.9 of the Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to "devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products by 2030". We anticipate an increase in the direct contribution of the tourism sector to Gross Domestic Product by 3% and a 10% increase in the proportion of sustainable tourism jobs.
The specific objective is to improve tourism attractiveness and sector competence in hospitality and CRM for the creation and development of an integrated sustainable tourism system in the project areas.
Our project aims to achieve the following four key results:
• Result 1: Improved conservation and accessibility conditions of the Dvin, Garni, and Aruch sites. This includes restoration works, musealization, and creation of visitor routes;
• Result 2: The integrated cultural system of the project areas is operational. This encompasses communication, integrated tourism system planning, and a pilot integrated marketing campaign;
• Result 3: The beneficiary institutions are sufficiently competent in site management and continuous staff training. This involves training in conservation and CRM for archaeological site personnel;
• Result 4: Rural communities in the project area activate and manage family-based cultural tourism services. This will be achieved through training co-hosts and promoting opportunities for local economic improvement.
